Fish Out of Water

I'm feeling a bit out of place, today. I can't say why. Everyone around me is working on some sort of project, and I'm here trying to figure out what to do. I've completed everything I needed to do on my list, and yet I feel the need to do something, ANYTHING!

Don't get me wrong, I love the job! But, I still have that feeling of uncertainty and unsurity. Should I be doing something? I know it will take sometime to get use to this new position. Hell, I still feel like I'm an hourly employee for crying out loud. Hasn't really quite sunk in yet. But give it time!

I have to admit. I was a bit anxious on how I was going to do this long commute everyday. There was no way in hell I was going to fork over $50 in gas every week. That's just nuts. I could be using that for other things, such as clothes, shoes, and things I need to look good! However, I figured out how to use the train and bus, and so far, it's been a good commute. I actually get some sleep on the train and/or bus in both directions.

Also, looking forward to buying additional fish for the tank this weekend. We ended up with our friends' aquarium and it looks nice in the living room. We only had 4 casualties in the tank. I need to buy a companion for the other Cherry Barb, and See-through Fairy and something that eats algae. God, it's been ages since I had a fish tank. I don't believe I hadn't had one since high school. It's nice. A dog, and some fish! I just don't want to turn into the animal house on the block!

One Week Later

Well, it's been one week after starting in my new position, and I have to admit, it's been fine. I finally have my little office cube set up the way I want it. Being the big airline geek I am, it's decorated with airline memorabila. I finally got the stewardess wall I always wanted. It's not at home, but I think it's pretty appropriate to have it at work, since I do work for an airline. Additionally, I did get some great comments. You all know how I yearn for the good ol' stewardess days. I believe I was a stewardess in a previous life!!

Anyway, all has been relatively quiet here in the office. The instructor staff is slowly showing themselves at the office. Once we get closer to the start of class, I'll be able to see all of them. They have been wonderful. It's good to know how excited they were when they found out I got the position. And they are doing all they can to make my transition pretty uneventful. Actually, the whole office has been that way. I even had a "Welcome" pizza lunch from the staff. Well, sort of. It was left overs from the other lunch. But it's the intention!

I'm still feeling a bit out of place, since I'm not quite knowing everything around here. Almost felt the same way when I started working for a new airline. I'm out of my comfort zone. Everything not being familiar.

I'm also finding myself a bit impatient. I want to jump right in. But I know that will take time. I have to remind myself (everyday) that there's a process in place and I have to trust it.

It really hit me when I was sitting in on a conference call with all the rest of the managers company wide. OK, I'm a manager for this company. It's strange. I've always been the non-descript employee. Now, I'm the non-descript supervisor.

I need to embrace my suit-ness so to speak! (hehehe) I have to admit, I do look GOOD in my shirt and tie! I think I'm giving my boss some competition, but don't say anything!

Anyway, back to work. I have a company reception this afternoon, and need to RSVP for another that's coming up in a few weeks!

Moving On Up!

Well, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I was under tremendous pressure with lots of work stuff. And with all this work stuff, I've neglected my blog. I was afraid that I would not keep up with my blog because of distractions. However, that shouldn't be any excuse.

I'm happy to report that all the pressures of work have finally subsided. Well, it has for now. The HNL Test Flights went well. We had no scenarios on our flights, which made all that studying for naught. So, what it boils down to it, I flew to HNL, had a wonderful time there, and then came back. And the best part of it, I got paid for it. I couldn't ask for a better trip. It was the ideal trip. I literally picked the people I wanted to work with, and spend 24 hours in HNL. What more could I ask for? And, since then, no trip can compare. Well, I only had one trip after that.

Reason being was I had the rest of my reserve days dropped for an excellent reason. As you all know, I also apply for a job promotion in the training department. All this occurred during the last part of August and beginning of September, with the last interview on September 11. I'm happy to report that I got the promotion, and I started last Friday. What a relief. It's good to know that all that hard work finally paid off.

After 18 years of being in the air, I finally have my feet on the ground. I've gone from an erratic schedule, to something regular. I have weekends off, which I haven't had in a long time. I've gone from an hourly worker, to a salaried manager. It all has happened so fast! I feel like Melanie Griffin in "Working Girl." I've all of a sudden has to-do lists, calendar of events, corporate meetings, department meetings, and a staff. It's going to be hard to adjust to.

I'm fortunate to belong to a department that is hard working, knowledgeable, and most importantly, supportive and FUN! I'm sure once that I get into the swing of things, I can start letting my hair down and show my personality. Until then, it's about learning, learning, and more learning!

The next step of my new life. With that, I should be able to blog more often. More likely during my commute to and from work. So, there should more to come. Hopefully!

Lucky's Day at The Groomer

Well, after having Lucky for almost 2 months, it was time to send him to the groomers. Admittedly, he was starting to look a bit shabby, and we wanted him to start looking more like a shih tzu from the dog shows. It was decided that we would have him short during the winters and long during the summers. I know that’s a bit reverse, but the winters here in Seattle tend to be wet. If we kept his coat long, we’d be doing a lot of dog washing sessions just to keep his coat clean.

Well, we took him to Pet Parlor in Lynnwood. I do have to say, they did a wonderful job with him. Since this is his first time to the groomers, we were not sure how he would be. As you all know, Lucky is such a shy dog when it comes to new people. He’s getting there, but still needs more work. And since this is our first time sending him there, we weren’t quite sure how we should trim him. We told the groomer our intentions, and she suggested a puppy cut. So, a puppy cut it was!

Well, when I picked him up later on that day, I received wonderful comments from the groomers. They commented on how sweet Lucky was. Shy Lucky being sweet? We can see it, but we weren’t sure if anyone else can. Apparently, his first visit to the groomers wasn’t as traumatic as we thought it would be.

And when he came out of the door, OH MY GOD! How cute he was. They really cut him short, but the best part was we can see his cute little face. I didn’t realize how big his eyes were! They’re huge! And his profile is just so cute. They did a wonderful job with him. Here are the pictures.
